This cartoon works because the point is so obvious almost nobody in Washington wants to say it out loud.Democrats spent years telling the country that open borders are compassion, amnesty is kindness, and any serious attempt to secure the border is somehow cruel, racist, or un-American.But let’s be honest.If Democrats believed for one second that the millions of people coming across the border were going to become reliable Republican voters, their entire position would change overnight.Suddenly, border security would be urgent.Suddenly, deportation would be common sense.Suddenly, voter ID would be essential.Suddenly, the same people lecturing the rest of us about compassion would discover the phrase “rule of law” real fast.That is the whole joke, and it lands because it feels exactly true.The Democrat Party has been shrinking with normal Americans for a reason. People are tired of the progressive lectures, the shame politics, the constant accusation that anyone who disagrees with them must be evil, racist, fascist, or ignorant.So what happens when your message stops working with the citizens already here?You look for a new base.That is what this immigration fight has always looked like to a lot of Americans.
