For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.1 Corinthians 11:31; KJV. Paul rebukes the Corinthians for abusing the Lord's Supper. Their selfishness, division, and irreverence turned a holy practice into a worldly event. In verse 23, Paul explains how he received from Christ the institution of communion. Paul reminds us we must examine ourselves first, stay in unity, and remain reverent in all our duties to Christ. Paul's advice is to worship Christ and avoid tension and divisions. Divisions destroy fellowship. Concerning communion, put others first in spiritual gatherings. Communion is a memorial of Christ's sacrifice. Stay Christ-centered. Live a life worthy of Christ's sacrifice. Treat sacred things with respect. The lesson: Unity in worship. Reverence in communion. Christ's sacrifice is the center of worship. In every gathering of Christians, love and humility should be practiced. Amen.
