"🚨 Was Moses Actually Hot-Headed, Defiant, and Disobedient? — Scripture Says SoBy Pastor Jason AnswersThe Bible does not present Moses as calm, compliant, or emotionally controlled. It presents him as volatile, resistant, and frequently at odds with God, and Scripture is explicit about it. When God first calls Moses at the burning bush, Moses does not respond with faith. He argues, resists, and questions God repeatedly, insisting he is not capable or qualified. Scripture says plainly, “Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses” (Exodus 4:14). That alone dismantles the sanitized version of Moses many people were taught.Shortly after this, Scripture records something even more unsettling. “At a lodging place on the way the LORD met him and sought to put him to death” (Exodus 4:24). God nearly killed Moses, not Pharaoh, not the wilderness, but God Himself. The reason was delayed obedience regarding circumcision. Moses was God’s chosen deliverer, yet partial obedience still placed him under judgment.This pattern continues throughout Moses’ leadership. When he descends Mount Sinai and sees Israel worshiping the golden calf, Moses does not calmly correct them. Scripture says his anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain (Exodus 32:19). These were not symbolic objects. They were written by the finger of God (Exodus 31:18), and Moses broke them in fury before the people.Later, at Meribah, God gives Moses a direct instruction. “Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water” (Numbers 20:8). Moses does not speak. He strikes the rock instead. Scripture records, “Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice” (Numbers 20:11). Water still flows, but judgment follows. God tells Moses, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them” (Numbers 20:12). Moses’ temper cost him the Promised Land. The miracle happened, but the consequence remained."
