👉 “Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, ‘If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.’”
(Mark 8:34)
Sometimes my life feels like a back-and-forth battle with control. One day I’m easily relinquishing my own way in favor of God’s plan. Other days I have to keep surrendering over and over because the pull of being in control is just too strong.
“Give up your own way….” Those five simple words Jesus spoke to the crowd may be the ones I wrestle with the most. I get attached to my own way of doing things. Soon self-sufficiency rises and I start making decisions in my own strength, trying too hard, and wearing myself out. I end up exhausted instead of welcoming the peace Jesus offers.
Surrender. It’s a hard concept for us to grasp because God gave us the will to choose. Surrender means to give up complete control. To yield to the power of another. Surrender is an amazing gift offered to us. Wouldn’t we rather hand over control of our lives to the One who holds power over all things? Then why do we struggle to surrender when Jesus calls?
God designed us to hope, dream, create, and build. We long to do great things and make an impact on our world. So we must pray and find our purpose using the gifts God gave us, while daily surrendering our lives and hearts to Him.
Mark chapter 8 tells us about Jesus’ ministry—from feeding four thousand people to healing one blind man. After a private word with his disciples, Jesus turned to a crowd and explained how to surrender. Jesus said, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” (Mark 8:35-36)
In our efforts to do good, let’s not forget the presence of our Holy God. Today let’s pray this prayer of surrender. Jesus is calling us to release control and follow His ways instead of our own.
Let’s pray.
✝️ Dear Heavenly Father,
I hear Your precious son Jesus gently calling me, yet I realize I’ve let the temptation of control keep me from responding to his voice. Forgive me for trying to do things on my own when I know Your ways are best. I surrender to Jesus today.
Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to draw me back to You in those times when I’ve relied on my own strength. Your Word in John 14:26 says, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach You all things and will remind You of everything I have said to you.” Thank You for reminding me that if I want to follow Jesus, I need to release my own way.
I have felt Your Holy Spirit tugging at my heart. So I am laying down my own plans, desires, and goals. I replace those right now with total surrender to Your will. I am grateful for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and that Jesus never stops pursuing a deeper relationship with me.
Your will be done in my life, Lord. I will follow where You lead me.

👉 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Have you ever been going strong…. for days, weeks, and even months, until one day you realize you’re not? You wonder if it’s just a slump or a phase or a hormonal spike, then admit it’s not going away…. whatever it is.
To utter the words, “I think I need a reset,” can be scary.
But what if?
What if God, in all of His Sovereignty, leads us to those vulnerable places? What if all along, He is allowing us to run out of steam so that we will finally…. stop?
What if a “reset” is exactly what you need? And what does that really mean? I found some interesting descriptions of what it means to reset something. Here are a few of them.
• to set back to the initial state
• to set anew
• to adjust again after an initial failure
How different would our lives be if we asked God to set things anew and sincerely meant it? Would our daily routines look the same? Would our attitudes remain as they are?
If you are sensing from the Holy Spirit that you need a real and lasting change in heart and mind, I encourage you to spend some unhurried time in that secret, quiet place, where you can meet with God. Our own Savior met with the Father in prayer, and prayed for all of us who are kept by Him. And in that prayer, He was specific about the things needed to live in this world but not be “of” it.

🙏 Loving Lord,
I long for those moments early in my faith when I felt Your closeness, Your joy, Your energy and zest for life. I confess that the daily grind has ground down my passion for You. I confess that I allow the cares of the world to choke out the joy of the gospel. Lord, turn my heart toward You again. Fix my eyes on You, fix my heart on You. Help me have a reset in my faith and in my life, starting today. Renew my heart, renew my life for You and Your ways. Help me see the daily routines of life as moments to gracefully submit to Your will. Thank You for being the Lord of my life everyday. Thank You, Father, that in Christ all things are made new. Thank You that in Christ, old things have passed away, and I have been made a new creation, in HIM. Help me to truly understand that this amazing truth is not only something for the future but something that took place the moment I believed in Christ as Savior. I pray that I may come to a deeper understanding of what it is to be a part of a new, and heavenly creation in Christ. Thank You, Lord. I trust and love You, Lord.

You may have heard of, or read, the Bible verses from Philippians 4:6-7:
👉 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
But read what comes before these verses in verses 4-5:
👉 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
And after in verses 8-9:
👉 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Along with clinging onto the promise of peace which "transcends all understanding", there are actions to take that will help you attain that peace: they seem so simple but can be so hard when you’re going through difficult times — but persevere!

•think about good things
— Is your heart troubled? Are you feeling like the events around you are out of control and it's beginning to take a toll on your mental and emotional peace? One of the hardest parts of knowing peace is understanding how it has nothing to do with control. If you're having trouble with trusting God or finding the words to pray above the howling of the scary storms, feel free to offer up this prayer to the Lord.

🙏 ‘O Lord,
Sometimes my insides feel like a battle zone, where missiles are falling too close to home. Other times I'm caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying out of control. Confusion reigns and defeat creeps in to steal my joy. I need Your peace—the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind. Calm my anxious spirit, Lord; all the attacking "if-only's" and "what-ifs" fill me with needless worry.
I know that trust is a big part of experiencing peace and that fear has no place in my life. Most of the things I worry about or dread don't even happen. So I'm declaring my trust in You. I'm releasing the reins of my life again and asking You to take control. I may need to pray this same prayer daily, but I'm tired of the frenzy of life that leaves my schedule and my thoughts without any margin. I need more of You, Lord, and less of me.
I surrender and admit: I can't control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to You, and focus on Your goodness. Thank You today for every good gift You’ve given, every blessing You’ve sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial You’ve allowed into my life. You bring good out of every circumstance if I'll only let go and believe You. I know that when I pray and give thanks instead of worrying, You have promised that I can experience the kind of peace that passes all understanding. That's Your kind of peace, Lord. And it's the kind I crave.
Whenever I’m stressed, anxious, or afraid, help me remember to run to You. You're the only one that can calm my fears and end my fretful behavior. Whether in trivial or heavy matters, I know You will not only give me peace; Lord, You will be my peace. And when I draw close to You — in prayer, in reading Your Word, in helping another, in taking my mind off myself — You will be there, up close and personal.
I can't handle these times alone, Lord. Will You speak peace and calm my storms, or hold my hand while we walk through them together? Will You bring the reassuring wisdom of those who have come through similar times into my life? Thank You, Lord. I'm trusting You.
In the name of the One who makes the wind and the waves stand still. I love You Lord Jesus.

The enemy wants you to believe that you are defeated, overwhelmed, and powerless. But God's Word tells a different story. The battle may be fierce, the pressure may be real, and the attacks may be relentless, but the enemy was never meant to reign over your life. Through Jesus Christ, God has already declared where the enemy belongs—under your feet.
The devil's greatest weapon has always been deception. He wants believers to focus on the size of their problems instead of the greatness of their God. Yet throughout Scripture, we see a God who consistently turns impossible situations into testimonies of His power and faithfulness.
When Adam and Eve fell in the Garden, it seemed as though darkness had won. But even in that moment, God released a promise of victory. Genesis 3:15 declared that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent's head. From the very beginning, God announced the enemy's defeat.
That promise found its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. At the cross, what looked like a moment of defeat became the greatest victory in history. Jesus conquered sin, death, and the powers of darkness. The enemy may have bruised His heel, but Christ crushed his head forever.
Many believers live beneath battles they were called to rise above. They carry fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame on their shoulders when God has already placed those enemies under their feet. What God has defeated, you do not have to surrender to.
Jesus reinforced this truth when He said in Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Christ did not give His followers a spirit of fear. He gave them authority.
Authority is not based on how strong you feel. Authority is based on who stands behind you. A police officer can stop traffic not because of personal strength, but because the authority of the law stands behind him. Likewise, believers walk in the authority of Christ Himself.
The enemy trembles when a child of God understands their position in Christ. Satan's strategy is to keep believers focused on their weaknesses, failures, and fears. God's strategy is to remind believers of His victory.
The battlefield may surround you, but remember that the outcome has already been determined. The same God who parted the Red Sea, shut the mouths of lions, and raised Jesus from the dead is fighting for you today.
Psalm 91:13 declares, "You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot." Notice the picture God gives. The believer is not running from the serpent. The believer is standing in victory over it.
There will be seasons when the enemy attacks your faith, your family, your peace, and your purpose. In those moments, do not magnify the attack. Magnify the God who has already overcome every attack.
The cross was not merely an event of redemption; it was a declaration of victory. Every nail, every drop of blood, and every moment of suffering pointed toward the triumph of God's eternal plan. Jesus did not die as a victim. He died as the victorious King.
Colossians 2:15 reveals this victory beautifully: "Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." The powers of darkness were stripped of their ultimate authority through the finished work of Christ.
Today, whatever enemy stands before you—fear, doubt, discouragement, temptation, opposition, or uncertainty—remember where God says it belongs. Not above you. Not beside you. Under your feet.
Walk forward with confidence. Pray with boldness. Stand with faith. The battle belongs to the Lord, and the victory belongs to those who trust in Him. The enemy's roar may be loud, but the voice of God is greater. Through Jesus Christ, the enemy is under your feet.

In many progressive cities, homelessness and open air drug use have become rampant. Progressives have become anti-police and as a result crime has exploded. A urine-soaked Portland is now just behind Memphis in crime—it is no longer the safe city it was only 20 years ago. Over 100 restaurants have closed and many businesses have already fled. Vote out the progressive leadership? Not likely. California’s Governor Newsom has all but destroyed his state due to his leftist, progressive policies. He could not be recalled and he keeps getting reelected. How? Gavin now thinks he can become president, mostly using his baseless confidence and good looks. He wants to destroy USA like he did the once-great state of California.
All progressives want to be seen as more progressive. Democrat politicians who are seen as letting up—even a little—are drowned in ridicule. The end result is taxpayer slavery and misery. A tyrant can be found in all progressives. They want total control, just like Castro, Mao, or Stalin. Taxpayers become virtual slaves—the progressives steal our labor just like the gulags in the old Soviet Union under Stalin. A corrupt media props up their progressive leaders’ lies and corruption.
