Apparently, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has sharply criticized President Donald Trump over the war in Iran. In May 2026, Johnson’s office said Chicagoans had more than enough of Trump’s blasphemous war in Iran and argued that the conflict was hurting working families. At the same time, Chicago continues to deal with serious violence at home. Chicago Police reported 840 shooting incidents, 1,055 shooting victims, and 250 homicides through July 31, 2026. By August 24, the city’s homicide count had risen to about 280.Supporters of Johnson say a mayor has every right to speak out about a foreign war that can affect Chicago families, taxpayers, veterans, fuel prices, and the broader economy. They also point out that Chicago homicides have declined compared with some previous years.Critics say Johnson should spend more of his political attention on violent crime and public safety in Chicago before attacking the president over a war overseas. They argue that the contrast is especially striking when more than 1,000 people have already been shot in the city this year.#chicago #brandonjohnson #iranwar
