JB Pritzker wants to spend his time railing against Donald Trump, lecturing the country, and pretending Illinois is some model of enlightened Democratic leadership. Meanwhile, Chicago looks like a city that has been failed by the people in charge.Since the Iran war began, official city data showed 1,013 shooting victimizations in Chicago through the latest available count. That is not a talking point. That is not a partisan slogan. That is a human disaster inside one of America’s great cities.And yet Pritzker’s political energy always seems to run outward. Trump is the problem. Republicans are the problem. Conservatives are the problem. Washington is the problem. Somehow the problem is never the Democratic machine that has controlled Chicago for generations, or the soft-on-crime culture that keeps asking law-abiding families to tolerate the intolerable.Maybe, before Pritzker worries about what Trump is doing, he should worry about what is happening in Illinois.Maybe he should worry about the parents who hear gunfire outside their homes.Maybe he should worry about the police officers being asked to hold the line while politicians undercut law enforcement and then act shocked when criminals stop being afraid.And yes, maybe he should help the President remove illegal alien criminals instead of treating every serious enforcement effort like some moral outrage. The left loves to talk about “war zones” when Trump does something overseas. Fine. Then look at Chicago. Look at the crime scenes. Look at the families. Look at the neighborhoods Democrats have promised to save for decades.Fix Illinois first.Should Pritzker spend less time fighting Trump and more time helping restore law and order in his own state?
