This cartoon nails it.The Democratic Party keeps bragging about its “big tent,” but at some point the big tent stops looking like a coalition and starts looking like a circus where half the acts are trying to burn the place down. You cannot keep all of these factions together forever. You cannot have old-school liberals, socialists, anti-Israel radicals, pro-Palestinian activists, LGBT activists, union Democrats, corporate Democrats, environmental absolutists, and government-power fanatics all pretending they want the same country. They do not.The uncomfortable truth is that the socialists are not just “one voice” in the tent anymore. They are increasingly the loudest voice, the angriest voice, and the one the party seems most afraid to cross. And socialism is never just about “free stuff.” It is about control.Control the economy. Control speech. Control education. Control health care. Control energy. Control what you can say, what you can own, what you can build, and eventually what you are allowed to believe. That is where the whole thing starts falling apart. The same crowd screaming about civil rights here at home is also making excuses for anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian movements that are not exactly known for embracing LGBT rights, religious freedom, free speech, or individual liberty.Funny how that works. They can chant together for now, but the contradictions are real. And once the government-power crowd wins, nobody else’s rights are safe either. So long civil rights. So long anybody’s rights.Hello equally poor.Hello oligarchs.Goodbye to the democratic republic America was supposed to be.The big tent is not sustainable. It is being pulled apart by people who do not merely want a seat inside it, they want to own the tent, rewrite the rules, and decide who gets kicked out next.
