MAKE-BELIEVE HEROESThe (current) Very Bestest What fictional heroes are you most impressed with Right This Minute? As a storyteller, I respect a good character - and that goes double for an inSPIRing character. So here are a couple that are currently moving me. I shall split this into two categories, one for live action, and the other for animation.3D War Goddess: Shirley Dander, from "Slow Horses". Ms. Dander is a diminutive Welsh MI-5 agent, serving in a sort of penal unit for disgraced employees. While originally in comms, her true talent turns out to be combat, where, powered by her anger issues (and coke habit), she has racked up an impressive 11 combat kills, all vs. well armed, trained men, in just 4 seasons. While no superwoman, she is nigh relentless in pursuit, or CQB. 2D Savior: The Doctor, from Neytirix's "Character Redesign" series. The Doctor is some sort of mechanical being, with multiple clawed appendages, usually concealed under a full length blue cape. His appearance, along with his hollow voice, and peculiar cadence of speech, lend him an initial air of menace - which is promptly subverted, as he ends up being the first remotely helpful individual that Steven & Marie encounter. But his menace returns in the "No Longer a Pacifist" episode, where Steven & Marie are cornered by the series' 'Big Bad', Pufferbunny. Just as all seems lost, the Doctor makes an appearance, and we shortly discover that, in the words of one YouTube Commenter, "Not only does the Doctor have hands - he can Throw them!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH3wgm6JaQk Anybody reading this is invited to share their own current faves in Comments.
