3. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.1 Corinthians 8:3; KJV. Paul is teaching on Christian love and our responsibility to new believers. It's not enough that we have knowledge; we must exercise restraint and patience until the new believers mature in Christ. Corinth was filled with temples and idols, making idol-related food a daily challenge. Paul explains that a true believer loves God, and God recognizes this and cares for them, even if all they know is that God loves them. A Christian who is fed on the Word of God knows that idols are nothing, having no life, spirit, or power, and cannot do good or evil. Food offered to an idol has not changed; it will still support life. But new believers in Corinth were sensitive to food offered to idols, and Paul refrained from eating that kind of food in front of them. Do not be careless with your rights in Christ; you can become a trap to a new believer. If you hurt a new believer, you hurt Christ. Love is willing to surrender rights for the sake of another's spiritual well-being. The lesson: Love guides knowledge. Idols are nothing; all things come from the Almighty Father, through Christ our Lord. Christian maturity shows restraint; Christ died for us all. Our actions affect others. Amen.
