•The Spirit Asked Who They Were•By Joshua AdamsThey knew the name of Jesus.That wasn't enough.Acts 19 tells us about seven sons of Sceva who attempted to cast out an evil spirit by invoking the name of Jesus whom Paul preached.They had heard the name.They had seen the authority.They knew what words were being spoken.So they tried to use them too.Then the evil spirit answered:“Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” Acts 19:15That question should make every professing Christian uncomfortable.Because these men discovered something the modern church desperately needs to remember:The name of Jesus is not a magic phrase.You can say His name without knowing Him.You can repeat Christian language without walking with Christ.You can know the sermons, quote the verses, sing the songs, wear the shirts, attend the services and still be trying to borrow an authority that comes from a relationship you don't actually have.These men knew who Paul preached.But they didn't have Paul's walk.And what happened next wasn't subtle.The possessed man overpowered them so violently that they fled the house wounded and naked.There is a difference between knowing about Jesus and being known by Jesus.That's why this passage isn't really about learning the correct words to say to darkness.It's about whether your life belongs to Christ when nobody is listening to the words.Don't settle for knowing His name.Know Him.#JesusChrist #Bible #BibleStudy #Acts19 #ChristianFaith
