A 54-year-old man with over 30 prior arrests walked free on probation and stabbed a 29-year-old stranger to death in broad daylight on Atlanta’s Beltline. Jonathan Hamby had already been convicted of aggravated assault yet remained on the streets armed and unsupervised. This was entirely preventable. When the justice system repeatedly releases violent repeat offenders instead of locking them up, ordinary people become the victims. Failed probation and soft sentences turn public spaces into danger zones. We cannot accept this as normal. Stronger accountability and real prison time for career criminals are the only ways to protect families and restore safety to our communities.
