This weekend in Washington, D.C., real Indy Cars are flying around a brand-new 1.7-mile street circuit on the National Mall — 147 laps for a full 250 miles — hitting speeds over 170 mph on the Pennsylvania Avenue straight with the Capitol and Washington Monument as the backdrop. Top drivers such as Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin, Pato O’Ward, and Alex Palou are putting on a show for the pro-Trump crowds packing the stands, celebrating 250 years of American freedom the only way that feels right: With horsepower and a checkered flags. The big orange machine, number 1, is out in front and pulling away. President Trump has both hands on the wheel and the throttle wide open, steering America toward a stronger, freer future while the competition keeps spinning out. Bringing up the rear, AOC in her DSA helmet, pedaling a little pink tricycle and screaming “Tax the cars!” Her presidential ambitions still need training wheels. Nearby, a lefty judge is bouncing along in a wooden wagon, waving a gavel and yelling “Stop Trump!” like that strategy has ever worked. Mitch McConnell is already upside-down in the ditch. Mitch looks shell shocked. Gavin Newsom, the classic limousine liberal, ran off the road while honking “No fair!” And the Love Bug, Eric Swalwell version— complete with Chinese spy heart stickers — just took another spin-out on the first turn. And Elon Musk observes from above in his flying car. The rest of the pack keeps changing drivers, rewriting the rules mid-race, and blaming the track. Meanwhile the lead car just keeps lapping them. Two hundred and fifty years of American freedom didn’t happen by accident. It happened because Americans were willing to drive hard, ignore the backseat critics, and stay focused on the finish line.
