•”There is death in the pot.”•By Joshua AdamsThat's an actual sentence in the Bible.During a famine, Elisha and the sons of the prophets were preparing food. One of the men went into the field, gathered wild gourds he didn't recognize, sliced them into the pot and served them.Then they tasted it.Something was terribly wrong.They cried out to Elisha, “O thou man of God, there is death in the pot.” 2 Kings 4:40And Elisha's response was strange.“Then bring meal.”Meal here means flour.He threw the flour into the pot and told them to serve it again.“And there was no harm in the pot.” 2 Kings 4:41Now don't miss this by turning the flour into some magical ingredient.Scripture doesn't say Elisha discovered an ancient poison remedy. The flour isn't the hero of this story.God is.Once again, God used something painfully ordinary in a situation where the ordinary should not have been enough.And Scripture is full of moments like this.A staff in Moses' hand.A stone in David's sling.Salt thrown into a spring.Flour thrown into a poisoned pot.Maybe we keep staring at what God told someone to use when we should be looking at the God who told them to use it.Faith isn't believing the flour is powerful.Faith is obeying when God is.Some of the strangest stories in the Bible carry the clearest reminder:God does not need impressive tools to do impossible things.#Bible #BibleStudy #Elisha #2Kings #ChristianFaith
