•THEY STOOD THEIR GOD UP AND HE FELL AGAIN•By Joshua AdamsThey picked their god up off the floor.Read that again. The Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant and brought it into the temple of Dagon. They placed the Ark beside the idol as though Israel's God were just another trophy belonging to their god.The next morning, Dagon was lying face down before the Ark of the LORD.So they picked Dagon up and put him back where he belonged. Then came the second morning.Dagon was down again.Only this time his head and both hands were broken off. There is something almost painfully revealing about that picture. They had to carry the god they expected to worship. They had to lift the god they expected to bow before. They had to put their god back on his feet.Meanwhile, nobody had to defend the God of Israel.God did not need Israel's army in that room. He didn't need someone arguing on His behalf. He didn't even need Israel to possess the Ark at that moment.Dagon simply could not stand before Him.And maybe there is still a warning buried in this strange little passage.Be careful what you keep picking back up after God has already knocked it down. Some idols aren't statues.Sometimes they're money. Approval. Pride. Relationships. Addiction. Reputation. Even religious traditions we defend harder than Scripture itself. If something has to be continually propped up to remain your god, maybe it was never worthy of your worship.“The LORD, he is God.” 1 Kings 18:39#Bible #BibleStudy #JesusChrist #ChristianFaith #ArkOfTheCovenant
