23. And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
1 Corinthians 3:23: KJV.
Paul addresses the Christians at Corinth as carnal, in Greek *sarkikos*, meaning "of the flesh."
And the image of babies, not able to eat the meat of God's word, only able to take the milk of the word, as someone feeding them from a bottle.
Envy, strife, and division prove them not mature in the word.
We are laborers of God Almighty; we sow the word, plant seeds, and water.
But it is God who saves, pardons, and restores.
There is no foundation where we can build eternal life but on Christ, the Son of the Living God.
And we have submitted ourselves to God, who dwells in us, making us a temple of God.
Be careful in all you do; the temple is not what is built with hands.
But the Spirit of God dwells, or has taken residence, in a community of redeemed people.
Paul's advice: why say "I am of Paul," reducing your inheritance to a fraction, when you can have Christ, who is the door to heaven and eternal life?
The lesson: check your spiritual diet.
Are you drinking milk, or chewing the meat of the word?
Check yourself: are you submitted to the Cross of Christ and the Spirit's control?m
Carnality is a heart issue before it becomes a behavior issue.
We are building a spiritual relationship with Christ each day, building with eternal materials—gold, silver, precious stones—things done in love, faith, and obedience.
Some, and I include myself, have built with wood, hay, and stubble—activity done for appearances, approval, or personal gain—and when tested in the fire of affliction, were consumed.
We belong totally to Christ.
When you see Him as God, and you in Him, you will build well and honor the temple. Amen.
