At DFW Airport’s Terminal D chapel, travelers now find two fully equipped Wudu stations complete with low faucets, floor drains, and clear instructions for ritual ablution. A prominent Qibla marker on the ceiling directs worshippers toward Mecca.
These dedicated facilities were installed in a space meant to serve all faiths, yet they prioritize one specific set of religious practices with permanent infrastructure. Meanwhile, traditional American travelers see little comparable accommodation for their own customs or values.
This quiet transformation of public airport space raises serious questions about whose culture is being advanced in our nation’s major transit hubs and whether equal treatment still applies when one faith receives such specialized treatment.
