29. That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1 Corinthians 1:29; KJV.
Chapter 1 is separated into 4 messages: 1st, Paul's greetings to the church; 2nd, Paul gives thanks to God for His grace to the church; 3rd, Paul settles a division in the church; 4th, Paul explains how the greatest of all human wisdom cannot stand up to the superior wisdom of God Almighty.
Paul introduces himself to the church as an Apostle chosen by God, sent by Christ.
Paul addresses the church as sanctified, set apart for God's work, even though it had problems.
Paul gives God thanks because spiritual gifts have been received, lives have been changed, and gratitude keeps pride away.
A believer's life should reflect Christ's work.
Paul mentioned the division of the church; personality had filtered into the church, and the focus was on men instead of Christ.
Christ is One, and His church is one in unity with Him.
Salvation changes how you see truth.
Salvation is foolishness to those who are lost, but to the redeemed, it is the power of God.
Nothing in all the human body, mind, or spirit can save a soul that has sinned.
Salvation cannot be bought or earned; it can only be received.
The Gospel is offered to all, but not all will receive it, for they love their sin more than Christ.
To a believer, Christ is God's power and wisdom; Christ is everything we need. True wisdom is found in Christ, leading us to receive eternal life.
Today's verse: no man may attribute his salvation to anything in the created being; salvation is wholly from the Sovereign God of grace, at His good pleasure.
The lesson: Christ is the foundation of our faith, not human leaders.
The Cross reveals the power of God to forgive, pardon, and restore, not human wisdom.
God chooses the humble because they will listen; the proud resist.
The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are united as One, and unity is essential for a healthy church. Amen.
