Sadly, for millions pf people, maybe even billions, the answer to this cartoon feels obvious.Three legendary heavyweight boxers built reputations with their fists. Anthony Fauci built his with a microphone, a government title and the public’s trust. The lasting scandal of the COVID era is how often Washington projected certainty when the underlying evidence was more limited, conditional and complicated.Vaccine messaging is a prime example. Fauci publicly argued that vaccinated people could become a “dead end” for the virus, language that strongly suggested vaccination would stop transmission. We later learned vaccinated people could still become infected and transmit COVID, especially as variants changed the virus. Then there were the schools. Children faced far lower risk of severe COVID than older adults, yet prolonged closures inflicted enormous educational damage. National assessments documented major pandemic-era learning losses. Fauci later acknowledged that keeping schools closed for a year “was not a good idea.”Now newly released 2021 texts have reopened the question of what Fauci discussed privately versus what he told the public. In one exchange, he raised a theoretical concern that fever and immune response after a second vaccine dose could be associated with first-trimester miscarriage. Days later, he publicly said officials had seen “no red flags” among vaccinated pregnant women. That is where Fauci’s legacy deserves relentless scrutiny. Trust is not something government gets to command. It has to be earned. If crimes can be proved, prosecute them. If misconduct can be documented, expose it. And if public officials misled Americans, history should remember it.Do you believe Anthony Fauci will ever be held accountable for his role in the COVID response?
