Nests of the Baya weaver- Sri Lanka, India Male builds the nest, in colonies, females accept the nest then lays 2-4 eggs, she alone will incubate and feed the chicks. She will raise her family, males very rarely assists in feeding, as they are busy building more nests for other females. Baya weaver birds do not reuse their old nests for new breeding seasons. Males tear down or destroy weathered structures to build completely new ones. A single baya weaver tree colony typically holds up to 50 hanging nests. More established sites can support 60 -100 or more nests on one tree.
