This is good news, and it may be the first sign that Anthony Fauci’s federal pardon is not the legal force field many people assumed it was.Florida, Louisiana and West Virginia have subpoenaed Fauci as their attorneys general investigate whether he personally profited from pandemic-era health guidance. At the same time, the Senate Homeland Security Committee voted to hold him in contempt after he invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during questioning, and the Justice Department has received the committee’s referral. Biden’s pardon covers potential federal offenses from Fauci’s government service, but presidential pardons do not erase independent state authority.For millions of Americans who watched businesses destroyed, churches closed, children kept out of classrooms, families separated and personal medical decisions subjected to unprecedented government pressure, Fauci became the face of an arrogant public-health establishment that rarely admitted error and demanded extraordinary obedience.I want every legitimate allegation investigated to the bottom.If prosecutors uncover crimes that can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, prosecute them. If state investigators uncover conduct that creates lawful civil liability, pursue it. If a court ultimately orders prison time, fines, restitution or other penalties, enforce them.That is how accountability is supposed to work in America.The states should follow the evidence wherever it leads, obtain the records they are legally entitled to obtain, and put every relevant fact in front of the public.Fauci spent years occupying one of the most powerful positions in American public health. That power came with responsibility.Now it should come with scrutiny.If the evidence clears him, say so. If the evidence supports criminal or civil charges, bring them and let a court decide.Do you want Florida, Louisiana and West Virginia to keep pressing these investigations until every question is answered?
