The Florida Attorney General is absolutely right to call for assault charges against DiJonai Carrington after that blatant clothesline on Sophie Cunningham. Plays like that have no place on the court, and treating them as mere fouls only encourages more dangerous behavior that puts athletes at risk of serious injury. When a player deliberately uses an arm to take another down in such a reckless manner, it crosses the line from competitive contact into criminal territory. Our justice system must apply equally whether the incident happens on a basketball floor or anywhere else. Excusing it because it occurred during a game undermines the rule of law and sends the wrong message to young athletes watching.Accountability matters. Charging Carrington would reaffirm that no one is above basic standards of conduct, protecting the integrity of the sport and ensuring players can compete without fear of being blindsided by intentional harm.
