•God never needed a temple.•By Joshua AdamsThat may sound strange considering how much of Scripture involves the tabernacle and the temple, but even Solomon understood it.Standing before the temple he had built, Solomon prayed:“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?” 1 Kings 8:27That changes the way you read the entire story.God was never a deity who could be boxed inside four walls.The temple existed because God chose to make His presence known among His people, not because He needed somewhere to live.Isaiah later records God saying:“Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me?” Isaiah 66:1Then Jesus came.And suddenly the presence of God was not being pointed to by a building of stone.“The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” John 1:14And after Christ, something even more astonishing was revealed:“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16We have always had a tendency to want God somewhere manageable.Somewhere predictable.Somewhere we can visit and then leave.Somewhere contained.But the God of Scripture refuses every box we build for Him.Heaven cannot contain Him.Temples cannot contain Him.Religious systems cannot contain Him.And yet the God whom heaven itself cannot contain chose to draw near to us through Jesus Christ.That is the wonder.Not that mankind finally built a house worthy of God.But that the God no house could ever hold desired to dwell among His people.#JesusChrist #BiblicalTruth #BibleStudy #ChristianFaith #Scripture
