2. That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. Romans 9:2; KJV. Paul is confirming his conscience; he is deeply saddened because his fellow Jews have not accepted Christ. God gave Israel spiritual privileges, promises, covenants, and the law. All this pointed to Christ as the Lamb of God, who paid the price of sin for mankind. Rejecting Christ is a rejection of Almighty God. Being a Jew is not a guarantee of being God's people. Abraham had two sons, but only Isaac is counted as the son of promise. Rebekah had twins from Isaac, but God chose Jacob over the firstborn Esau. Paul says, "Is God unfair?" Absolutely not. God's mercy is His decision. No one earns it. The lesson: Salvation is based on God's grace, not human effort or ancestry. Salvation is still offered and received this very day, even though many have rejected it. God chooses people for His purpose. Being part of God's family is a spiritual gift, coming from faith in Christ, not your family tree. Amen.
