For four years, Americans were told that biology was a matter of opinion.We were told a grown man could take a spot on a girls' podium, and that the girl who lost it should be gracious about it. We were told that questions about locker rooms, dormitories, and hospital wards were hateful rather than reasonable. Mostly, we were told to be quiet.Common sense did not leave on its own. It was pushed out.Here is what makes this different from every other fight in American politics. The country was not actually split. Polling in early 2025 found roughly eight in ten Americans opposed male athletes competing in women's sports, and that included about two thirds of Democrats. That is not a red state number. That is a national consensus, and Washington spent four years pretending it did not exist.Voters delivered the verdict in November. The Biden administration's Title IX rewrite was struck down in federal court in January 2025. The issue was settled about as clearly as anything gets settled in this country.And now the midterms are here, and it is back.Candidates who watched their party lose on this are already reopening it, because the activist class that funds primaries has not accepted the answer. Democratic leadership keeps mistaking a small, loud donor base for the American people. They are not the same thing, and the gap between them is the entire story of the last election.The part nobody in that coalition wants to say out loud is who pays for it. Women do. Female athletes lose scholarships and podiums. Women in shelters, prisons, and hospital wards lose the single-sex spaces that were built for their safety after generations of women fought to get them. Every one of those protections was won on the premise that sex is real and that women needed the law to recognize it.You cannot erase the category and protect the people inside it. That is not a culture war position. That is arithmetic.
