Ed Markey has once again reached for the biggest alarm bell he could find.According to Markey, the “climate crisis” is a five alarm fire, President Trump is the “arsonist-in-chief,” and our entire quality of life is supposedly going up in smoke.Give me a break.Extreme heat is real, and communities should prepare for it. That does not mean Donald Trump controls the weather, causes every heat wave, or is personally responsible for smoke drifting into the United States from wildfires burning in Canada.Markey’s language is not serious policymaking. It is political theater designed to frighten Americans into supporting whatever massive spending package, federal mandate, or new regulation Democrats put in front of them.If Markey genuinely believes emissions are an existential emergency, perhaps he should direct some of that outrage toward the world’s largest polluters.According to the International Energy Agency, China accounted for approximately 35 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions in 2023. India became the world’s third-largest source of emissions that same year. Meanwhile, American families are constantly told they must pay more for electricity, vehicles, appliances, and transportation to save the planet.Funny how the outrage always seems to stop at the water’s edge. There is a reasonable debate to be had about protecting vulnerable Americans during heat waves, strengthening the electric grid, improving forest management, and helping communities prepare for natural disasters. What is not reasonable is blaming Donald Trump for every hot day, every wildfire, and every cloud of smoke that crosses an international border.Markey is not putting out a five alarm fire. He is pulling the political fire alarm and hoping frightened voters will not stop to ask who actually started the smoke.Do you think Markey is genuinely concerned about the climate, or is this simply another excuse for more government spending and control?Source: Sen.
