9. And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.Acts 24:9; KJV. Five days had passed, and Ananias the high priest and other religious leaders, with a speaker named Tertullus, came before Felix, making false accusations, having no real evidence. The religious leaders supported the lies against Paul with their authority. Felix allowed Paul to defend himself, and Paul denied all their false claims. Saying, if they had proof of their charges, they would have given it to Felix. Paul admitted that he was a follower of Christ and that he was not against the Old Testament but in line with it. Faith in Christ is supported by Scripture. Paul stated he had a clear conscience because he obeyed God, void of any offense toward God or men. Paul continued, saying that because he mentioned the resurrection of the dead, he was being charged with the riot. Felix was not ignorant of Christianity, but he called for Paul often, expecting to receive money for his release, but after two years, Felix was replaced by Porcius Festus, and he, wanting to please the Jews, left Paul in prison. The lesson: Truth stands calmly before lies. The real issue is with Christ and His gift of eternal life. Money, power, and comfort blocked Felix from submission to Christ. Now is the day of salvation; to put it off for even a minute leaves you in eternal danger. A clear conscience before God cannot be bought or bargained for; it must be lived. Amen.
