26. Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting. Acts 23:26; KJV. The military commander in Jerusalem, after discovering the plot to kill Paul by the Jews, is sending Paul to the Roman Governor of the region because Paul is a Roman citizen. The Roman commander realized that the accusations against Paul were questions against Jewish law, not crimes against Rome. So the commander has sent Paul to Felix because he could find no fault in him, and the Jews could bring their charges against Paul in front of Felix. Felix is familiar with Jewish laws because his wife, Drusilla, is the daughter of Herod Agrippa, who is deeply connected to Jewish politics and religion. So Paul arrived in Caesarea, the Roman capital of the region, and Felix reads the letter and says he will hear Paul's case. The lesson: God is in authority; these Romans, letters, and legal procedures are not spiritual, yet God uses them to protect Paul. Plots and dangers are real, human hatred is strong, but God's protection is stronger. Paul was not rescued into leisure, but hard times are coming in Rome, where he will bring the Gospel to the Roman Empire. Our deepest security is our citizenship in Christ Jesus; whatever takes place in our lives, God knows how to use it for our good and His purpose. Amen.
