Finally, some Republicans in the Senate are showing backbone. Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee are drawing a line in the sand by demanding the Senate cancel its August recess and stay in Washington until the SAVE America Act becomes law. This is what leadership looks like — putting the work in instead of heading home while our elections remain vulnerable. The SAVE America Act does what should have been done years ago: it requires proof of citizenship and secure identification for federal elections. No more loopholes. No more excuses about election integrity. For too long, Democrats and weak Republicans have allowed vulnerabilities that dilute the votes of actual American citizens. This bill fixes that.We cannot have senators taking vacations on the taxpayer dime while the foundation of our republic hangs in the balance. Secure borders and secure elections are non-negotiable. The midterms are coming, and Americans deserve a voting system they can trust. It's time for the full Senate to put in the work, finish the job, and show the American people that election security matters more than a summer break.
