How are Americans supposed to trust the next generation of doctors when the people training them refuse to acknowledge the most basic facts of human biology?That is the disturbing question raised during a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing examining the impact of DEI ideology on medical schools.Rep. Mary Miller asked leaders from the University of California, San Francisco and UCLA a remarkably simple question: Has a non-biological woman ever given birth?Neither leader provided a direct answer.UCSF Chancellor Sam Hawgood responded that a “transgender person can.” When Miller clarified that she was asking about a biological male, Hawgood began to “reiterate” his answer instead of stating the obvious.Miller then questioned UCLA medical school Dean Steve Dubinett about course material referencing people who have a uterus but do not identify as women. When asked whether someone can have a uterus without being a woman, Dubinett avoided answering and discussed treating transgender patients in compliance with the law.This is not complicated medicine. It is basic biology.Women have babies. Men do not.Treating every patient with compassion and dignity does not require doctors to deny biological reality. In fact, competent medical care depends upon recognizing it. Biological sex affects anatomy, reproductive health, disease risks, medication responses and countless other medical decisions.If political ideology prevents medical educators from answering a simple question about who can become pregnant, what other scientific facts are they willing to ignore?That should concern every American who may someday depend upon one of their graduates. Patients need physicians trained to follow evidence, recognize biological differences and tell the truth, even when that truth is politically inconvenient.Medical schools should produce doctors, not ideological activists who have been taught that acknowledging reality is somehow offensive.Rep. Miller exposed something far larger than an awkward congressional exchange.
