Take a good look at this cartoon, because it captures the whole political moment in one frame.America is neck deep in the mud. Runaway debt, a border crisis we are still cleaning up, cities that stopped enforcing the law, schools that stopped teaching. That hole did not dig itself.And what is the message from Democrat leadership? It is right there in the caption. "You're fine! He's lying to you!"That is gaslighting, and Americans have heard it before. Inflation was transitory. The border was secure. The economy was the strongest in history. Families knew better every single time they bought groceries or filled the tank.Here is what they will not admit. The Democrat Party your parents knew is gone. No leader. No agenda. No plan for the country. The only glue holding it together is reflexive opposition to anything President Trump says or does, even when he is pulling America out of the pit.Meanwhile, the real energy in their party belongs to open socialists. Democratic socialists are winning primaries in the biggest city in America, and the old guard is not steering the ship anymore. It is being dragged behind it.Alexander Hamilton saw this coming in Federalist No. 1. He warned that the men most dangerous to a republic begin as demagogues, courting the people, and end as tyrants. Telling a drowning man he is fine is not compassion. It is a bid for his loyalty on the way down.But here is the good news. America is not doomed to stay in that mud. This country has climbed out of deeper holes than this one, and it always climbs out the same way, with freedom, hard work, and the truth.The man in the cartoon has a choice. Take the hand, or believe the voice. So does America.
