Look at this cartoon and you are looking at the entire history of socialism in one picture. The cheese sits there, bright and shiny and free. The mice do not ask the one question that matters. Who put it there, and why? That is the whole trick. Free stuff always looks like a gift. It never looks like a trap until the bar comes down.Socialism gets accepted for a simple reason. Everyone wants something for nothing. People look at the wealthy and decide that fairness means those riches belong to them, even though they did nothing to build them. It feels unfair, so it must be owed. That resentment is the bait. Then the politician walks in. He points at the cheese and promises he can hand it out for free. Free healthcare. Free college. Free housing. All you have to do is trust him and step onto the wood. The moment you buy the lie, you lose touch with reality. Because there is no such thing as free. Somebody grew that cheese. Somebody earned that money. Every dollar the government gives away was first taken from a person who worked for it.The bill does not disappear. It just moves to someone else, and eventually it comes back to you.And here is the part the mice never live to learn. Once the government controls the cheese, the government controls you. Equality arrives, and it is real. Everyone ends up equally poor. Everyone except the people holding the trap. The Founders understood this. They did not build a system to hand out cheese. They built one to protect the right to go earn your own. Liberty was the point, not comfort. The mice die because they never ask why the cheese is free. Nations die for the same reason.Do not be the mouse. Ask the question first.
