2. And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,Acts 17:2; KJV. Paul, traveling through Amphipolis and Apollonia, came to Thessalonica and taught in the synagogue. He showed in the scriptures that Christ must suffer, die, and rise from death, being the Messiah whom Paul preached. Now a multitude of Greek men and women believed. But the Jews refused to believe and stirred up the people of the city. So the brethren sent Paul to Berea. The Jews here were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they searched the scriptures to verify the truth. Many honorable men and women believed. But the Jews of Thessalonica, when they found out Christ was being preached in Berea, came and caused trouble in the city, so the brethren sent Paul to Athens. The lesson: the Christian faith is built on God's Word, not on feelings or traditions. Not everyone will receive the Gospel message; some will resist, some will use violence in opposition to the Truth. The Gospel truly changes believers, and that is a threat to those who are bound for destruction. But it is eternal LIFE to all who receive Christ as Lord and Savior. Amen.
