Her body, which suffered severe head injuries, was discovered by her 13-year-old daughter hidden under a duvet in a blood-stained room. The prime suspect is Ahmad Alsaqer (also spelled Al-Saqar), a 28-year-old asylum seeker from the Middle East whom Carney reportedly met at a pro-Palestine protest about 18 months ago. Police believe Alsaqer fled the scene early Tuesday, traveling by bus to Dublin and flying to Istanbul, Turkey, with concerns he may move on to Jordan or Syria. While Carney was known locally for her pro-Palestinian activism and work in the healthcare sector, investigators are exploring jealous rage as a potential motive for the killing. The Gardaí have upgraded the case to a murder investigation and issued an international manhunt, while also expressing concern that the crime could be exploited to stir racial tensions.
