There is something profoundly wrong when the President of the United States has to spend his days fighting the opposition party just to protect the citizens who pay for the government.That is where we are.Democrats in New York are moving to ban ICE officers from wearing masks on the job, and Governor Hochul has vowed to sue the White House over immigration-related funding cuts rather than turn over criminal illegal aliens. New Jersey Democrats just sent what the New York Times called a "coarse but clear" anti-ICE message, and Boston, Chicago, Portland, and Minneapolis are digging in the same direction.In Washington, Chuck Schumer promised to block voter ID and proof of citizenship "tooth and nail," even though 83 percent of Americans, including 71 percent of Democrats, support requiring photo ID to vote. That is not a defense of democracy. That is a defense of the loopholes.And in New York City, an avowed Democratic Socialists of America member now sits in Gracie Mansion, freezing rents on roughly 40 percent of apartments, planning taxpayer-funded government grocery stores, and taking his oath of office from Bernie Sanders. Socialism used to be the accusation. Now it is the platform.Trump is doing exactly what John Jay described in Federalist No. 3 as the first duty of a wise and free people, providing for their safety. He is deporting criminals, pushing for citizen-only voting, and refusing to let a hollowed-out party turn our cities into laboratories for policies that failed everywhere they were tried.The families in this cartoon are not caricatures. They are the small business owners, the tradesmen, the retirees, the parents and children who wake up every day and hold this country together while Washington argues about whether their votes and their neighborhoods still belong to them.Trump sees them. Democrats see donors, activists, and future voters.That is the fight.
