"Iranian - who was given legal status by Obama - was arrested at LAX as she tried to board a flight to Türkey, for conspiring to traffic weapons for Iran's t*rrorist regime Federal authorities are accusing 44-year-old Shamim Mafi - an Iranian national and lawful permanent resident who lived in the San Fernando Valley - of using her Oman-based company to broker massive arms deals. Prosecutors say she helped sell Iranian-made Mohajer-6-armed drones, bombs, bomb fuses, AK-47 rifles, and millions of rounds of ammunition to Sudan's military. According to the federal criminal complaint Mafi facilitated a contract worth over $70 million for Mohajer-6 drones from Iran's Ministry of Defense to Sudan. She coordinated Sudanese officials' travel to Iran, received over $7 million in payments, and issued receipts. She also brokered sales of 55,000 bomb fuses, submitting a letter of intent directly to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with millions of rounds of ammunition. Mafi owns and operates Atlas International Business LLC (also known as Atlas Global Holding or Atlas Tech LLC) with a co-conspirator. Records show about 62 contacts between her and an Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security officer between December 2022 and June 2025. She never got her required licenses. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche saying, “This individual came from Iran and gained legal status under the Obama administration. While enjoying a life in the United States, this woman was allegedly breaking the law by brokering lethal weapons deals with Iranian adversaries.” FBI Assistant Director Akil Davis added that she “abused the privilege of living in the United States by delivering weapons on behalf of a regime that sponsors t*rrorism.” If convicted, Mafi faces up to 20 years in federal prison on the conspiracy charge under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
