9. Come over into Macedonia, and help us.Acts 16:9; KJV. Paul had been forbidden to preach in Asia, by the Spirit, and in a vision during the night, he saw a man asking that he come to Macedonia and preach Christ. Paul met a woman in Thyatira who believed the gospel; her name was Lydia. Then she and all her household were baptized, and she looked after the necessities of Paul and his companions. And as Paul went to pray, a girl possessed with an evil spirit followed them daily, crying out, "These men are servants of the most High God, who show unto us the way of salvation." And Paul, after many days, turned to the spirit and said, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ, come out of this girl," and it left immediately. Then her masters brought Paul and Silas before the magistrates, saying they were troubling the city, teaching customs against Roman law. The lesson to be learned: God knows what He is doing. The Gospel can comfort, as with the household of Lydia. The Gospel can also confront, as in the deliverance of the slave girl. Money and power often resist the Gospel. Christ set the slave girl free; her masters sought revenge for the loss of revenue. Amen.
