26. Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.Acts 15:26; KJV. This is how the church in Jerusalem dealt with the subversion of the new Gentile souls that were in Antioch. The leaders of the Christian church wrote letters to the Gentiles, saying that the men they sent had risked their lives in promoting the Gospel message. And, being approved by the Holy Ghost, they were not required to keep the law of Moses, as the Pharisees had instructed. The Law was fulfilled in Christ, yet Christ did not abolish the Law. The letter informed them to abstain from sexual sins, and if in the company of Jewish converts, out of love for the brethren, to observe the Jewish dietary requirements so as not to offend. And when the Gentiles read the letter, they rejoiced that their salvation in Christ was confirmed. The lessons learned: Salvation is by the grace of Christ alone. The Holy Ghost leads the church into truth. Holiness is not optional; grace does not erase God's call to purity. True Gospel teaching brings joy and comfort. Faith in Jesus is the requirement; you can add nothing to it, nor take anything away from it. Amen.
