🤔 Just my opinion… and something I’ve been thinking about for awhile.
It seems like over the years, we’ve changed the definition of what “high cholesterol” is more than once.
Meanwhile, prescriptions for cholesterol-lowering medications have continued to grow.
I’m not saying these medications are never appropriate. For some people, they absolutely can be an important part of treatment.
But I do wonder…
Are we having enough conversations about why cholesterol changes in the first place before reaching for a prescription?
What if more attention was given to:
🥗 Eating real, whole foods
💪 Building muscle and staying active
🍎 Reducing excess sugar and ultra-processed foods
😴 Prioritizing sleep
😌 Managing stress
🩸 Looking at inflammation, insulin resistance, and overall metabolic health, not just one lab number
Maybe medications are exactly what some people need.
Maybe others deserve the opportunity to first see what lifestyle changes can accomplish.
To me, lifestyle should be the first conversation, not the last.
Again… that’s just my opinion.
I’d rather see people invest more energy into helping people become healthier than simply managing numbers.
What do you think?
