I have Samsung and my messages and I just used my messenger on my Samsung phone. And my email still works.

Try Textra app. It has more features than the Samsung app did. Not as many complaints as what googles app has.

Roderick also you can switch from 1 app to the other back and forth. it's very easy just make it the default app. You lose nothing.
