26. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.Acts 10:26; KJV. Peter tells Cornelius to stand up; God is the only one who should be worshiped. Cornelius has gathered a group of people, using his influence so that many will hear the word of God. Peter tells him that it is unlawful for a Jew to be in the company of Gentiles. Peter acknowledged the barrier that Jews do not associate with Gentiles, but God has taught him something new: God breaks down man-made barriers of religion, race, and culture, making the Gospel of salvation in Christ open to all who seek Him. Peter reminds the people that God sent His first message to Israel, announcing that there is peace through Jesus Christ. He continues that real peace comes from Christ alone, freeing people from spiritual bondage. Peter, telling them he was an eyewitness to Christ, His miracles, His death and resurrection, and that these people have heard of these things as the Gospel spread, the cross showing the horror of sin versus the love of God. And while Peter was speaking, the Holy Ghost filled all who were listening and believing. And the Jewish believers are shocked that the Holy Ghost came to the Gentiles, a clear sign that the Gentiles are fully included in God's salvation plan. And Peter accepted them and commanded them to be baptized, seeing that the Holy Ghost and God have accepted them already. The lessons learned: The Gospel is for all mankind. Jesus is Lord and Judge of all. The message of the Gospel is forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus. The Holy Ghost unites believers; the same Spirit received on Pentecost is now given to the Gentiles. One Body, one Spirit, one Lord, in Christ Jesus. Amen.
