π¨ CHAOS AT DELANEY HALL: Protesters were once again pepper-sprayed, punched, shoved to the ground and struck with pepper balls fired at close range during Saturday's demonstration outside the for-profit Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey.Status Coup's Jordan Chariton was on the ground as ICE agents rushed the gates and tackled demonstrators after protesters burned an American flag outside the facility. For context, the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that flag burning is protected speech under the First Amendment. The confrontation escalated further when a GEO Group employee appeared to throw punches at protesters who were blocking traffic into the detention facility. Several vehicles also came dangerously close to demonstrators just days after a peaceful protester was struck by a vehicle driven by a GEO Group employee outside Delaney Hall.Status Coup has spent months documenting protests outside Delaney Hall, where detainees and advocates have alleged inhumane conditions, inadequate medical care and other abuses inside the facility, while also capturing repeated clashes between demonstrators, federal agents, private security personnel and law enforcement.Support independent, on-the-ground journalism by visiting the link in our bio.Reporting by Jordan Chariton β Videography by Jon Farina β Edited by Dylan C.https://www.facebook.com/share/v/18rjxCsmxW/
