30. Understandest thou what thou readest?Acts 8:30, KJV. We continue in Acts 8. Philip is told by an angel of the Lord to go south of Jerusalem, and he went. He sees a man of Ethiopia, under Candace the queen. The man was sitting in a chariot reading Isaiah. We come to today's verse, asking if he understood what he was reading. The passage he was reading was, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth." This reveals Christ, His life, death, and resurrection. Philip begins at this verse and preached Christ Jesus unto him. And the man says, "Here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?" And they stopped, and Philip baptized him. And as they came out of the water, Philip was caught up by God's Spirit, and the man saw him no more. The lessons to be learned: spiritual hunger exists.Jesus is the center of God's word.God's word needs to be understood.Evangelism begins where there are people, faith produces action, baptism is the outward sign of inner faith, joy is the result of true salvation. Amen.
