President Donald Trump confronted Thune and pressed Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act at a GOP luncheon right before the interaction #vote Trump made his position clear, he canceled the signing ceremony for a housing affordability bill and said he would not sign it until the SAVE America Act reaches his desk. The SAVE act would require proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote. Over 85% of Americans support this, including democrats. Although Thune continues to claim that he doesn't have the votes, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) proved that claim to be false during a vote-a-rama sessions tied to budget legislation. Lee offered an amendment that matched the House-passed version of the SAVE act. It received 50 votes. That's all they need + a VP JD Vance tie breaking Vote - who continues to stand by to issue that vote. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted no. Thune also continues to claim that he doesn't have the votes to nuke the filibuster, which his colleagues say is another lie. They say that Thune’s math is misleading - saying Lee's amendment proves they have the votes. His GOP colleagues are accusing him of blocking a filibuster with Rep.
