1. Then said the high priest, Are these things so? Acts 7:1, KJV. Acts 7 is Stephen answering the charges against him of blasphemy of God and the law of Moses. Stephen does not panic; he answers in truth, backing it up with scripture and history. Stephen is on trial, yet he is respectful and begins to explain that God initiated the relationship between Himself and Abraham. Even today, our salvation started with God seeking us first. Abraham is obedient to God's instructions without getting all the details. Abraham believed God's promise, yet had no land of his own and no child of his own. God specializes in doing the "impossible." Stephen gives an account of the history of the Hebrew descendants of Abraham up to the time of Moses' birth. God already has a plan to rescue the children of Jacob, whose name has been changed to Israel. God brings deliverance in dark times, and there has never been anyone created who can resist Him. We will finish this tomorrow, but remember that God has the perfect plan to rescue you. His plan of salvation is perfected in His Son Jesus. Amen.
