From France postTHE EU PASSED ITS TOUGHEST DEPORTATION LAW IN DECADES 🇪🇺The European Parliament approved a sweeping immigration overhaul on Wednesday. The vote was 418 to 218.⠀Right-wing MEPs stood and chanted "send them back" the moment results were announced. Left MEPs fired back with "shame on you."⠀The new rules require migrants under a return order to leave within 30 days. Those who refuse can be detained for up to 24 months.⠀Only about 20% of migrants who receive deportation orders in the EU are actually removed today. This law is designed to fix that.⠀Entry bans for those deemed a security risk go from 5 to 10 years. Deportation centers outside EU territory are now authorized.⠀The question now: will governments like Macron's France actually use these new powers?⠀Does this shift sound familiar?
