ISLAM MOCKS THE INCARNATION BECAUSE IT REJECTS THE GOD WHO BECAME MAN TO REDEEM US
Islamic polemic frequently attacks Christianity with the question, “Why does your God need to eat and sleep?” The objection is meant to expose supposed weakness in the Christian God. It fails because it attacks a caricature rather than the actual biblical teaching.
Scripture never claims that the divine nature became hungry, tired, or dependent. It teaches that the eternal Son of God assumed a genuine human nature while remaining fully divine. The eating and sleeping belong to His real humanity. They do not touch His divine identity.
THE ISLAMIC OBJECTION RESTS ON A STRAWMAN
The mockery assumes Christians believe God’s essence became a needy biological creature. That is not what the Bible teaches. John 1:1 declares that the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:14 states that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
The eternal Son entered human history by taking on true humanity. He did not cease to be God. He added humanity to His person. This is the biblical doctrine of the incarnation: one person, two natures—fully divine and fully human—without confusion or mixture.
Jesus slept in the boat during the storm because He was genuinely weary after ministry. Yet in the same account He rebuked the wind and waves and they obeyed Him. The sleep demonstrates real humanity.
The command over creation demonstrates divine authority. Both truths stand together in Matthew 8:23-27. The mocker isolates the sleep and ignores the authority. Scripture joins them without contradiction.
EATING AND SLEEPING CONFIRM REAL HUMANITY REQUIRED FOR REDEMPTION
After His resurrection Jesus ate fish with His disciples to prove He was not a spirit or phantom. Luke 24:41-43 records this detail to establish bodily resurrection. A real body that had truly died rose and could eat. This is not embarrassment. It is proof that the Savior entered the full conditions of human life.
Hebrews 2:14 explains the necessity: since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself partook of the same. To redeem humans who are flesh and blood, the Redeemer had to share flesh and blood. To obey where Adam failed, He needed a real human nature.
To die as a substitutionary sacrifice, He needed a body capable of death. Romans 5:18-19 contrasts the one man’s disobedience with the one Man’s obedience. The comparison requires Christ to be truly human. Without real incarnation there is no real atonement.
ISLAMIC DOCTRINE EXPLICITLY REJECTS THE INCARNATION
Quran 112:1-4 commands: “Say, ‘He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.’” The real meaning is a flat denial of any divine sonship or begetting. It portrays the Christian teaching of the eternal Son who became flesh as impossible and blasphemous.
Quran 4:171 warns the People of the Scripture: “do not say, ‘Three’; desist—it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son.” This verse directly forbids the biblical revelation of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and exalts Allah above the very idea of a divine Son entering human flesh. These texts do not merely disagree with Christianity. They label the central truth of the Gospel as error that must be rejected.
THE BIBLICAL GOD ENTERED HUMAN WEAKNESS TO CONQUER IT
Jehovah is the Creator who does not grow weary. The Son who slept in the boat and ate with disciples is the same Son who upholds the universe by the word of His power. The incarnation was voluntary. The Son laid aside the independent exercise of certain divine prerogatives to live as man under the Law, obey perfectly, and offer Himself as the Lamb of God.
Islam’s mockery reveals a theology that cannot accommodate a God who redeems by entering the human condition. Biblical Christianity presents a God who is transcendent yet who stooped in love to become one of us so that He could bear our sins in His body on the tree.
The eating and sleeping are not proofs against deity. They are proofs that the Savior was truly one with us in our humanity so that we could be one with Him in His victory.
THE REAL-WORLD COST OF THIS MOCKERY
This polemic is not academic. It is weaponized in dawah efforts targeting Christian youth, in schools, and on social media. It sows doubt by presenting a distorted version of Christian doctrine as obviously absurd.
Young people exposed to it without biblical grounding often conclude that the incarnation is irrational and turn away from the only Savior who can save them. The stakes are eternal. The God who became man is the only God who can forgive sin and raise the dead.
Islam’s rejection of that truth leaves its followers without a mediator and without atonement. Christians must answer the mockery not with embarrassment but with clear proclamation of the biblical Christ—fully God, fully man, the only hope for sinners.
