20. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20 KJV Today's verse comes from a confrontation in the temple, where Peter and John are preaching the resurrection of Jesus. The Sadducees, who deny any resurrection from death, or angels, or spirits, put Peter and John in jail until the following day. Now the high priest asks, "By what power or by what name have you done this thing?" And Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, answered, "If we are examined about the healing of the crippled man, how he was healed, let it be known to all that by the name of Jesus of Nazareth, whom you crucified and God raised from death, this man stands healed." Now they marveled at Peter's boldness, and they took note of his wisdom, that he had spent time with Jesus. And they commanded them to no longer speak to the people or use the name of Jesus. The lesson: God's truth will face opposition, but it will not be stopped. Our faith stands on the risen Christ. All authority and power come from Jesus. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Being with Jesus changed fishermen into powerful men of God who preached the Gospel. When human commands conflict with God's commands, we must obey God. Amen.
