1955 or 1956 Powell (Brothers) Sport Wagon with pull-out drawers for fishing rods and rifles.
The Powell brothers decided America needed pickups in the post-war period and further decided to build their own in Compton, California. Figured the quickest way to get into the car manufacturing biz was to source as many 1941 Plymouth chassis as they could find in local junkyards, rebuild them and their flathead sixes, then top them with sheet metal bodies of their own design. They built about 1,000 pickups and about 300 wagons before they literally ran out of 1941 Plymouth chassis.
One of the coolest parts to both the wagons and the pickups were the storage devices built into the body, specifically for the pull-out drawers for fishing rods and rifles. That the Powell brothers built said devices out of furnace ducting just adds coolness points.
