SSG Jeff Alpert spent a career proving that service rarely follows a straight line. Though trained as an 11E, he seemed to live on TDY orders. From REFORGER 1 in 1969 to Vietnam with the 3/5 Cavalry, he returned home in 1970 carrying multiple Bronze Stars, a CIB, Crosses of Gallantry, and the unseen weight of war.His path led from the mountains of I Corps to the snowy hills of Colorado, then to Ft. Knox testing a then‑unknown Bradley Fighting Vehicle against M‑60s. Before the paperwork caught up, he was sent to West Germany during the Munich Olympics terror alerts, and later reassigned to keep morale alive across the Patch/Panzer AO.Three years later, he was shaping the next generation as a Drill Instructor in Kansas. This is one story from 250 years of service.Tell us another.
