The double standard in Washington is glaring and dangerous. Air traffic controllers must retire at 56, FBI agents at 57, and commercial pilots at 65 because these roles demand razor-sharp focus and quick decision-making where lives are literally on the line. Yet we allow 79-, 84-, and 90-year-old politicians — many clearly diminished — to control the world’s most powerful military, economy, and nuclear arsenal with no mandatory retirement in sight. This isn’t compassion or respect for elders; it’s a refusal to let go of power. The country is being run by individuals who, in any other high-stakes profession, would have been sidelined years ago. Cognitive decline, frailty, and detachment from reality have become normalized at the highest levels while younger generations with fresh energy and clear minds are shut out of real influence. It’s time for serious term limits and age restrictions for elected office. No one should be steering the fate of 330 million Americans when they can barely navigate basic daily functions. The American people deserve leaders who are mentally and physically fit to handle the immense pressures of governing — not a gerontocracy clinging to power until the very end. Common sense demands better.
